Spike Cunningham (left) was honored on Dec 19, 2024 for 40 years of coordinating and hosting Sunday Lunch which has served low-income individuals at St Ann’s Catholic Church. That is the embodiment of dedication! Mallory Thomas, immediate past president of East Spokane Kiwanis Club, presented a brick to Spike on which his name is inscribed for placement in the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Plaza in Portland. Congratulations, Spike!
New location for Kiwanis Book Bank
Now located at the Havermale School, 1300 W Knox
Hundreds of volunteer hours have gone into moving the Spokane area Kiwanis Book Bank to the new location at 1300 W. Knox. The Book Bank is a Division-Wide project of the Greater Spokane Area Kiwanis Division. The move was coordinated by East Spokane Club members Mallory Thomas and Val Kjack. Volunteers from a number of Spokane area clubs joined in to move shelves and books over a one week period. Over three thousand books have already been given free to children in 2025. Mallory and Val are shooting for 10,000 this year.

Dia Maurer was honored with the Legion of Honor award as a 30-year Kiwanis member! Congratulations, Dia, for your steadfast service to others through Kiwanis!
Immediate Past President, Mallory Thomas, (right) was honored with the “Rusty” Award for her extraordinary Kiwanis efforts. The Award is named after Dr. Joan “Rusty” Clutts, an educator who established a scholarship fund through the Kiwanis Pacific Northwest Foundation. Lt Governor, Teresa Venne, presented the award. To honor Mallory $1,000 was donated by members of the East Spokane Kiwanis Club to the scholarship fund. Congratulations, Mallory!
East Spokane Kiwanis members recently shared the gift of reading with preschoolers and their parents at Whitman Elementary School. The “doughnut and book” event was attended by East Spokane Kiwanians, Mallory, Teresa, Lee and former Whitman principal, Bev Lund. The children and parents were thrilled with their books!
Our own Teresa Venne was honored with the “2021-2022 Governor’s Cup Award”at the August 2023 Pacific Northwest District Convention. Way to go, Teresa!
